El Nino Southern Oscillation

El Nino Southern Oscillation ENSO updateLa Niña indicators continue to develop as the ENSO outlook shifted to La Niña WATCH since mid-June. The chance of this La Niña forming in 2020 is around 50%. International climate models surveyed by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department (VMGD) suggest sea surface temperatures in the central tropical Pacific will continue to cool over the coming months, hence majority of models (more than half surveyed) anticipate a La Niña event could be met by the end of spring (September - November 2020).

Rainfall

Rainfall and WaterRainfall was normal at Pekoa in May. Normal rainfall is forecasted for the Sanma group in July.
